The Academy
How We Teach
At Dartford Excelsior, we have a commitment to excellence and this is reflected in how we deliver our teaching.
Lessons
Our lessons have been designed by experienced teachers and structured by online course specialists to be engaging and informative. Students are guided in their knowledge acquisition, building their understanding of and confidence in a topic. At the end of each lesson, students are set an assignment for submission ahead of their tutorial on the relevant topic.
Tutorials
Each lesson is accompanied by a tutorial which takes place after submission of the lesson assignment. Tutorials are either individual or, if it is a group tutorial, it will include no more than three students.
This use of the tutorial system is what distinguishes Dartford Excelsior from other online and conventional schools. The tutorial system is used by distinguished universities such as the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. It is a form of teaching that seeks to encourage young people to take greater ownership over the development of their intellectual thought and technical skills.
Tutorials are an opportunity for tutors to teach students in a personalised manner as well as to take students through assignments. They are also an opportunity for students to discuss their ideas and reasoning with their tutor and others, which also gives them the opportunity to learn from their peers.
Excellence
Students thus have a high number of contact hours with tutors. They benefit from comprehensive and individual feedback on their work while having the opportunity to share their ideas and learn from others. All of these help to provide the perfect environment for receiving an outstanding education.
